UoB funds for PE

The Public Engagement Fund supports new ways to engage public and community audiences with University of Birmingham research and provides opportunities to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of our researchers. It is primarily intended as a seedcorn fund supporting long term public engagement plans and aspirations. The scheme is open to all University staff and PGRs who carry out research as part of their role.

The fund exists to:

  • Enable University of Birmingham staff and PGRs to plan and deliver public engagement related to their research
  • Enable University of Birmingham staff and PGRs to trial new public engagement approaches
  • Build capacity and capability for excellent public engagement at the University of Birmingham
  • Support individuals as they develop equitable partnerships with those outside academia, including communities and other public facing groups

The main fund accepts applications for amounts from £500-£2,000 and has 4 deadlines per year. Upcoming deaslines include:

  • 18 November 2022
  • 17 February 2023
  • 19 May 2023
  • 18 August 2023

Applicants should expect to hear the outcome of their application within 4 weeks of the deadline.

Applications for less than £500 can be submitted year-round to the Rapid Fund. Outcomes for these applications will be made known within 14 days of submission.
