Kenny Webster has developed a package of public activities that researchers can participate in that directly contribute towards REF (Research Excellence Framework) impact. The package can be included at the grant writing stage and Kenny often writes letters of support in this capacity but can also be included in existing grants. The typical activities within the package are a ‘Meet the Expert‘ event, a ‘Cafe Scientifique’ (join Facebook group), and a writing workshop for museum content. By taking part in these three activities, researchers are able to develop many different skills and experiences of public engagement, supported by museum staff with training as necessary. Most importantly, after participating, evidence can be given of the contribution and the learning that has taken place, which is accepted by REF.
