Survivor Art Project

As part of the University of Birmingham’s Community Day, the Social Work Department in the Institute of Applied Social Studies hosted a ‘Survivor Performance Arts and Exhibition’ in the Muirhead Tower which showcased art created by people dealing with mental health issues.

One performance was ‘The Order of Disorder’ by Louise Stokes. This is ‘A woman’s attempts to examine her eating difficulties and explore the possible reasons behind her illness, using stylised theatre with a poetical thread and stark humour’. Social work academics and students were available alongside survivor artists to answer questions about Social Work and Survivor Arts at the University of Birmingham.

Workshops were also used to tell stories and poems to spark conversations. You can view the event poster as a PDF (opens new tab).
