The Role of Engagement in Research June 12-13th

The Role of Engagement in Research – support available in Birmingham and beyond

Free training & networking events for all staff and students – Thursday June 12th & Friday June 13th, now at 52 Pritchatts Rd – Lecture Theatre 1  – Building G9 (Red) on the campus map

There is an increasing pressure to engage with potential beneficiaries of your research not only in its dissemination but also in the design and delivery of future work, particularly highlighted by its growing emphasis within funding application reviews. Being able to effectively engage different groups – and even just understanding who these groups might be, and which specific ones are most relevant to your research – can obviously be extremely difficult, so the University’s Public Engagement Working Group has developed a set of training events based around the key elements of communication and collaborative working, as well as evaluating your activities. Sessions include:

·         Communicating Research: 10am – 12.30pm Thursday 12th June
·         Working with External Partners: 1.30pm – 3.30pm Thursday 12th June
·         Evaluating Engagement: 10am – 12.30pm Friday 13th June
·         The Future of Engagement in Birmingham: 1.30pm – 3.30pm Friday 13th June
·         Engaged Social: 3.30pm – 5pm Friday 13th June

These are free events open to all academic and administrative staff, postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students. The sessions will be delivered by external organisations as well as internal staff, and will also provide plenty of opportunities for networking, as well as lunch and refreshments.

Please register for each of the events you wish to attend – you are welcome to attend one or all, or even pop in for part of the session if you can’t stay for the full duration – as we need to be sure of numbers for catering and planning any group activities appropriately.

TO BOOK: Please email engage@contacts.bham.ac.uk letting us know which session(s) you would like to attend as well as if you intend to stay for lunch, this helps us with catering.
