U3A Science – looking for speakers!

Fancy the chance of presenting your research to an elderly group of science enthusiasts? Maybe you have research which is particularly relevant to this age group?

A local (Edgbaston area) University of the Third Age (U3A) Science group are looking for speakers. The group consists of 10 elderly people interested in science in its widest aspects as all members come from varied backgrounds. They are interested in hearing about your current research work, what led you into it, snags encountered, implications and applications, future plans etc. They meet on the first Thursday of each month.

Typically the event starts at 2pm and finishes about 4pm.  The speaker’s slot is 40 mins to 60 mins including questions.  After that the chatting continues over tea and biscuits!

The next available slot is Thursday 3 March 2016.

Thursday, 2 June is also currently unbooked.

They ask speakers to bear the following in mind:

  • We operate at a fairly leisurely pace as we can’t all hear very well!
  • Visual aids need to be quite big!
  • Handouts appreciated so that we can think about the topic later.
  • No fancy projectors, but there is a large TV screen you can use – check set-up requirements in advance

Get in touch with UoB’s PER Officer who will be happy to put you in contact with the group’s coordinator. Email: c.d.t.gillett@bham.ac.uk with ‘U3A’ in the title of your email.
