Debbie is a Research Engagement Manager for Cancer Research UK, based in the University School of Cancer Sciences. Her role involves working closely with Birmingham cancer researchers to engage charity supporters, patients and the interested public with research being carried out in Birmingham, and raise the profile of Cancer Research UK’s local research.
Engagement activities include working with researchers to host regular lab tours, attend external events (e.g. Big Bang Fair, Thinktank, Race & Relay for Life), produce speeches and presentations for varied audiences, and creating innovative tools/demos to engage lay audiences with cancer research.
Debbie works closely with Karen Doyle (Senior Research Nurse, Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit). Karen has a particular interest in raising awareness of and recruitment to cancer clinical trials, communicating with cancer patients, and supporting health promotion activities.
